Irish Microbreweries the Black Sheep?

Since we’ve been away there has been a big increase in Irish microbreweries and pubs that stock their produce. I visited Against the Grain on Aungier Street with some mates from The Netherlands and decided to check out their sister pub on Capel Street The Black Sheep.

We indulged in a bowl of Fresh Cut Chunky Chips & Chilli Mayo for €4 and a glass of Howling Gale Ale from Eight Degrees Brewing Company. The perfect way to cheer up an otherwise dull afternoon. These brewers are micro players, that are battling monster budget wielding industry giants. The incredible thing is, they are gaining ground.

I also sampled a few frothy ones at the Irish Craft Beer Festival at the RDS recently.  It is such a great festival and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in beer ( ahem… the whole of the country.. ahem) and it is a great way to support small Irish business as well as sample beers you may not have tried. Below are some pics from my libationary adventures.
