Dublin Food Coop Membership
On Saturday we finally got around to collecting our membership cards from the Dublin Food Coop. It’s now one of many organic food markets in Dublin. We applied in February and the volunteer at the desk seemed quite surprised that they were ready for collection. “oh look and they are here!”. I was equally as surprised to find that I hadn’t managed to loose the receipt during that time.
As their site says it is food democracy in action. The Coop is owned by its members and you also get the bonus of discounts on produce. It really ads value to the local community. Saturdays is much more relaxed with the food market and Sundays various flea markets are held. The biggest of which held on the last Sunday of every month is the Dublin Flea Market. I get such a kick shoppping straight from passionate producers as well as sampling the toasted Gubeen sambo’s.
Another organic food market in Dublin
With my two bag full’s of produce purchased we had to peel ourselves away. Only to find on exiting that a brand new organic farmers market had opened next door. Wow. Would you like to sample some wild garlic pesto, or some basil hummus? Hell yes. Why not grab some rye sourdough while your at it? Sure. Visit the cheesemongers, Fishmongers or organic butchers stalls. OK.
Then a lady turns to me who is having a picnic at one of the long tables surrounded by family and says “have you tried the prosecco yet?” .You can guess my answer. To celebrate the opening of The Green Door Market she pours generously into a plastic glass. This is the best grocery shopping experience I have had in a long time. You certainly don’t get that in the local Lidl.
The market will be open on Thursdays 12:00 – 7:00pm, Fridays from 12:00-7:00pm and Saturdays from 9:30-4:00pm. For more information visit The Green Door Market or check out their Facebook page
