New Years Eve Amsterdam

So what did I get up to this month?

Rolling on from a busy December I packed a lot into January too. We started the year celebrating NYE in Amsterdam. There was a major storm which left us without electricity a few days before we left on our adventures. A friend arrived the day we were to leave as a storm refugee as he had no electricity and no estimated date of when it would return. He ended up housesitting for 2 weeks while he waited for his power to come back! I celebrated my birthday early by visiting friends and family before our big trip to Thailand. I ended up celebrating my actual birthday in a swanky Bangkok cocktail bar over-looking one of my favourite cities in the world known as the ‘Big Mango’. Not too shabby 🙂

December 2024: London, Kilkenny, Amsterdam, Germany & Brussels!

I know there’s been a gap of a few years since my last post here. Since then COVID is somewhat a thing of the past and we moved from Galway and are now happily based in Sligo.

I’m hoping to reignite this blog as a space I can document some sketches, keep track of my travels and adventures locally, as well as note what I’ve read or watched each month. A space outside of the socials. I may incorporate it into my art site vourneen.com but I’m not sure yet.

I brought my sketchbook with me and managed to get some quick sketches in and I also did a few pages in my travel accordian style sketchbook too.

So what did I get up to this month?

11 Best Things to do in Kilkenny on a short break

I hadn’t visited in ages (as we are temporarily living in Amsterdam ). So we decided to reconnect with the city and play at being a tourist while catching up with my parents who live there.

The population of this medieval “city” has a population of just under 30,000. For its size, it punches well above its weight. It oozes culture, exudes atmosphere and is exceedingly quaint. It is difficult to visit without some festival or conference going on such as The Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Kilkenomics or Rhythm & Roots adding to the buzz. The bar and restaurant selection are excellent and quite varied. You will find lots of things to do and it is perfect for a short break while in Ireland. Continue reading
